Every product has a carbon footprint that spans its entire lifecycle — from raw material extraction through manufacturing, transportation, use, and disposal. The Product Carbon Footprint Calculator estimates the greenhouse gas emissions embedded in a product based on its material composition and transportation logistics.

Materials vary enormously in their carbon intensity: aluminum requires intensive energy for smelting (11.5 kg CO₂/kg), while paper is relatively low at 1.1 kg CO₂/kg. How It Works

Production CO₂ = material weight × material emission factor. Factors (kg CO₂/kg material): Plastic: 6.0, Steel: 1.85, Aluminum: 11.5, Paper: 1.1, Glass: 0.85.

Transport CO₂ = weight × distance × mode factor ÷ 1000. Mode factors (kg CO₂/ton-km): Truck: 0.062, Ship: 0.008, Air: 0.602, Rail: 0.022.
