The Shoe Size Converter (International) converts US shoe sizes to EU (European), UK, and centimeter measurements for both men's and women's shoes. Shopping for shoes across different countries can be confusing because there is no universal shoe sizing standard, and each region uses a different numbering system. This converter simplifies the process by translating between the major systems instantly.
The US shoe sizing system uses a numerical scale where each full size represents approximately 1/3 inch (8.47 mm) of foot length. Men's and women's sizes are offset: a women's size is typically 1.5 to 2 sizes higher than the equivalent men's size for the same foot length. For example, a men's US 8 and a women's US 10 fit approximately the same foot.
The European (EU) sizing system, also called the Paris Point system, measures the length of the shoe last in units called Paris Points, each equal to 2/3 centimeter (6.67 mm). EU sizes are unisex in theory, though some brands adjust for width. The approximate conversion from US to EU adds 33 for men and 31 for women to the US size number.
The UK sizing system is similar to the US system but offset by about 1 size for men (US 9 = UK 8) and 2 sizes for women (US 9 = UK 7). Both US and UK systems are based on the barleycorn unit (1/3 inch per size), but they start at different points.
The converter also provides an approximate foot length in centimeters, which is the most objective measurement. Regardless of which sizing system you use, knowing your actual foot length in centimeters allows you to find the best fit from any brand or country. It is always recommended to try shoes on when possible, as sizing varies between manufacturers.
The conversion formulas are: EU Size = US Size + 33 (men) or US Size + 31 (women). UK Size = US Size - 1 (men) or US Size - 2 (women). Foot Length (cm) = (US Size + 18) x 0.847 (men) or (US Size + 17) x 0.847 (women). These are approximations as actual sizing varies between manufacturers.
Shoe sizes are approximate and vary between brands and styles. Half sizes are common in US and UK systems but less standard in EU sizing. For the best fit, measure your foot length in centimeters and compare to the manufacturer's specific size chart. Width also matters: US uses letters (B=narrow, D=medium, EE=wide for men).

For men, add 33 to the US size to get the approximate EU size (US 10 = EU 43). For women, add 31 (US 8 = EU 39). These are approximations; always check brand-specific charts.
Women's sizes run about 1.5-2 sizes higher than men's for the same foot length. A women's US 10 is roughly equivalent to a men's US 8 or 8.5.
Stand on a piece of paper, trace your foot outline, and measure the longest distance from heel to toe in centimeters. Do this in the afternoon when feet are slightly swollen. Measure both feet and use the larger measurement.
EU sizes are the same scale for men and women (both based on shoe last length in Paris Points). However, men's and women's shoes have different width proportions, so a men's EU 42 may fit differently than a women's EU 42.
UK men's sizes are 1 size smaller than US men's (US 10 = UK 9). UK women's sizes are 2 sizes smaller than US women's (US 8 = UK 6). Both systems use 1/3 inch per size increment.
Yes, significantly. A US 10 from Nike may fit differently than a US 10 from Adidas or New Balance. Sizes can vary by up to a full size between brands. Always refer to brand-specific size charts.
US sizes include width designations: Narrow (B for men, AA for women), Medium/Standard (D for men, B for women), Wide (EE for men, D for women), Extra Wide (4E+). EU sizes typically don't include width.
Children's sizes use a different scale. In the US, children's sizes go from 0-13, then restart at 1 for youth sizes. EU children's sizes start around 16 for infants and go up to about 37.
ISO 9407 defines a standard based on foot length in millimeters (Mondopoint system), used mainly for military and safety footwear. It has not replaced traditional sizing systems in consumer retail.
Generally size up, especially for athletic shoes and boots. Feet swell during the day and during physical activity. It is easier to add an insole to a slightly large shoe than to stretch a tight one.
