The Bra Size Converter translates US bra sizes to European (EU) and UK equivalents. Bra sizing is one of the most confusing areas of clothing conversion because different regions use completely different numbering systems for both band size and cup size. This converter helps decode the differences so you can shop confidently from international brands.
In the US system, bra sizes consist of a band number (in even inches, e.g., 32, 34, 36) and a cup letter (A, B, C, D, DD, DDD). The band number represents the underbust measurement in inches, and each cup letter represents approximately 1 inch of difference between the bust and underbust measurements.
The European system uses band sizes in centimeters, rounded to the nearest 5 (e.g., 70, 75, 80, 85). The approximate conversion from US inches to EU centimeters is: US 32 = EU 70, US 34 = EU 75, US 36 = EU 80, US 38 = EU 85. EU cup letters follow the same A-B-C-D sequence as the US for the smaller sizes, but diverge at larger sizes (no DD in most EU systems; they continue with E, F, G instead).
UK bra sizing uses the same inch-based band sizes as the US, but cup progression differs at larger sizes. UK sizing goes A-B-C-D-DD-E-F-FF-G-GG rather than the US DD-DDD-DDDD system. UK brands like Freya, Panache, and Fantasie are known for extensive size ranges.
Studies consistently show that up to 80% of women wear the wrong bra size. For the best fit, measure your underbust (snugly, where the band sits) and your bust (at the fullest point, standing naturally) in both inches and centimeters. The difference between these measurements determines your cup size. A professional fitting is recommended at least once to establish your baseline size in each brand's system.
Conversion formulas: EU Band = US Band x 2.54, rounded to nearest 5. UK Band = same as US Band (both in inches). Cup letters: US A-B-C-D = EU A-B-C-D = UK A-B-C-D. At DD and above, systems diverge. The underbust in cm is US Band x 2.54.
The EU cup number shown represents the cup progression (1=A, 2=B, 3=C, 4=D, 5=E, 6=F). Note that US DD = EU E = UK DD, and US DDD = EU F = UK E. Band and cup sizes are interdependent: a 34C has the same cup volume as a 36B or 32D (called sister sizes).

US sizes are in inches, EU in centimeters (rounded to 5). US 32 = EU 70, US 34 = EU 75, US 36 = EU 80, US 38 = EU 85, US 40 = EU 90.
They are the same from A through D. At DD and above, they diverge: US DD = UK DD, but US DDD = UK E, US DDDD = UK F. The UK system continues alphabetically (E, F, FF, G, GG) while the US adds D's.
Sister sizes have the same cup volume with different band sizes. Going up a band size, go down one cup: 34C = 36B = 32D in cup volume. This is useful if you are between band sizes.
Measure your underbust snugly in inches for the band size (round to nearest even number). Measure your bust at the fullest point. Each inch of difference = one cup size (1 inch = A, 2 = B, 3 = C, 4 = D, 5 = DD).
There is no enforced international standard for bra sizing. Each brand creates its own patterns and size charts. Fabric stretch, underwire shape, and cup shape all vary. Always check the brand's specific size chart.
EU cup sizing goes A, B, C, D, E, F, G (no double letters). So EU 75C = US 34C, EU 80E = US 36DD. The number shown in the converter (1-6) corresponds to these letters.
At least once a year, or whenever your weight changes by more than 5 kg (11 lbs), after pregnancy, or if your current bras are uncomfortable. Body shape changes over time.
In the US, the most commonly purchased bra size is 34DD, though studies suggest many women are wearing the wrong size. In Europe, 75B-C is most common.
French bra sizes use the same centimeter-based bands as other EU countries but may differ in cup progression. French sizing sometimes uses different cup scaling at larger sizes. When in doubt, use centimeter measurements.
Sports bras often use S/M/L sizing rather than band-cup combinations. To convert, check the brand's chart: typically S = 32A-34B, M = 34B-36C, L = 36C-38D. Compression sports bras fit snugly, so sizing up may improve comfort.
