The Target Price Calculator helps cryptocurrency traders and investors determine the exact price a coin must reach to achieve their desired return on investment. Instead of guessing or relying on gut feeling, this tool provides a precise exit price target that accounts for trading fees, giving you a concrete number to set as a take-profit order on your exchange.

Setting clear price targets is a cornerstone of disciplined trading. Without a predefined exit strategy, traders often fall victim to greed (holding too long and watching profits evaporate) or fear (selling too early and missing significant gains). By calculating your target price before entering a trade, you establish a mechanical rule that removes emotion from the exit decision. Professional traders know their targets before they enter, and this calculator makes that planning process simple and precise.

The calculator goes beyond basic percentage math by optionally incorporating trading fees into the target. A 50% desired return does not simply mean multiplying the entry price by 1.5 -- you also need to cover the buy and sell fees. On a round-trip trade with 0.2% total fees, your target price is slightly higher than the naive calculation, and this difference matters for accurate limit order placement.

This tool is versatile enough for any investment horizon: day traders targeting 2-5% moves, swing traders aiming for 20-50% gains, and long-term investors projecting 100%+ returns. It works with any cryptocurrency and any entry price, from fractional altcoin positions to large Bitcoin holdings. Use it to set realistic take-profit orders, plan partial exits at different target levels, or evaluate whether a potential trade offers a sufficient reward relative to its risk. Combined with the Liquidation Price Calculator for risk management, this tool provides the complete risk/reward framework every trader needs.

Visual Analysis

How It Works

The calculator determines the target price using the desired return percentage adjusted for fees:

Without Fees: Target Price = Entry Price x (1 + Desired Return / 100). Simple percentage markup on the entry price.

With Fees: Target Price = Entry Price x (1 + Desired Return/100 + Fee Rate) / (1 - Fee Rate). This accounts for the buy fee (already paid) and the sell fee (to be paid at exit), ensuring your net return after all fees matches the desired percentage.

Price Change Needed = Target Price - Entry Price. The absolute dollar amount the price must move.

Target Profit = Desired Return / 100 x Total Investment. The dollar amount of profit you aim to achieve.

Target Portfolio Value = Target Price x Quantity. The total value of your position at the target price.

Understanding Your Results

Compare your target price against technical resistance levels, all-time highs, and analyst price predictions to assess whether your target is realistic. If the target requires a price increase beyond the asset's historical volatility range, consider reducing your return expectation or extending your time horizon. For risk management, calculate the risk-to-reward ratio: divide the distance to target by the distance to your stop-loss. A ratio of 2:1 or better (target twice as far as stop-loss) is considered favorable.

Worked Examples

50% Return Target on Bitcoin

Inputs

entry price30000
quantity1
desired return50
include feesyes
fee rate0.2

Results

target price45135.34
price change needed15135.34
target profit15000
total investment30000
target value45135.34

To achieve a 50% return on 1 BTC bought at $30,000 (with 0.2% round-trip fees), the price must reach approximately $45,135. This accounts for the fee impact on your net return.

20% Target on Altcoin (No Fees)

Inputs

entry price1.5
quantity10000
desired return20
include feesno
fee rate0

Results

target price1.8
price change needed0.3
target profit3000
total investment15000
target value18000

A 20% target on 10,000 tokens at $1.50 entry requires the price to reach $1.80, yielding $3,000 profit on the $15,000 position.

Frequently Asked Questions

Analyze technical resistance levels, historical price ranges, on-chain metrics, and fundamental catalysts. A target within the asset's typical 30-90 day price range is more realistic than one requiring unprecedented moves. Use multiple analysis methods to triangulate a reasonable target.

Professional traders often use scaled exits: sell 25-33% at the first target, another portion at the second, and let the remainder ride with a trailing stop. This locks in profits while maintaining upside exposure. It is a more sophisticated approach than all-or-nothing exits.

Fees increase the price needed to achieve your desired return. With 0.2% round-trip fees on a 10% target, you need approximately 10.4% price increase instead of exactly 10%. On small targets or frequent trades, fees can meaningfully impact the required price movement.

Most professional traders require at least a 2:1 reward-to-risk ratio, meaning the potential profit is at least twice the potential loss. Some strategies use 3:1 or higher. If your target only offers 1:1 or worse, the trade may not be worth the risk.

Limit orders at your target price ensure execution at your desired level with lower fees (maker fee instead of taker). However, the price may not reach exactly your target. Some traders set limit orders slightly below the target to increase fill probability.

Your after-tax return is lower than the pre-tax return. For short-term trades (under 1 year), capital gains may be taxed at 20-37% in the US. If you need $10,000 after taxes, you may need to target $12,500-$16,000 in gross profit depending on your tax bracket.

Targets above the ATH are speculative and rely on the asset breaking into price discovery. While possible (crypto regularly sets new ATHs in bull markets), such targets carry higher uncertainty. Consider splitting: a conservative target below ATH and an aggressive target above.

Review targets when significant new information emerges: major protocol updates, regulatory changes, market structure shifts, or if the asset breaks through a key technical level. Avoid constantly adjusting targets based on short-term noise, as this defeats the purpose of having predefined exits.

Yes. Enter a negative desired return percentage. For example, if you short at $30,000 and want a 20% profit, enter -20% return, and the calculator will show the target buy-back price of $24,000 (or adjusted for fees).

A take-profit order executes at a fixed target price. A trailing stop moves with the price, maintaining a set distance below the high (for longs). Take-profit locks in exact gains; trailing stops capture more upside but may exit at a lower price during sharp reversals.
