This Sales Tax Calculator helps you calculate the final price after sales tax in the United States. Choose a state to auto-fill the statewide tax rate, or enter a custom rate for city/county totals. It also supports tax-included pricing, discounts, and quantity.
There are two common pricing styles:
Tax added on top: Total = Price × (1 + tax rate)
Tax included: Pre-tax = Price ÷ (1 + tax rate), Tax = Price − Pre-tax
State rates shown are statewide (standard) rates. Many locations add local taxes on top, which is why a custom rate option is included.

If $108 is tax-included at 8%, pre-tax is $100 and tax is $8.
Sales tax = price × (tax rate ÷ 100). Total price = price + sales tax.
Many states add city, county, and special district taxes on top of the statewide rate. Your combined rate can be higher than the state-only rate.
Several states have a 0% statewide sales tax. This calculator includes those states, but local taxes may still exist in some places.
Pre-tax price = total ÷ (1 + rate). Tax = total − pre-tax price.
Sales tax rates can change. The state rates here are standard statewide rates and should be used as estimates. For exact totals, use your combined state+local rate.
